About Supreme Elk
Supreme Elk is the name given to meat sourced from naturally farm raised New Zealand Elk. Elk is a large majestic species of farmed deer and is rare in that it makes up a small proportion of farm-raised deer in New Zealand.
New Zealand Elk originate from a herd of Rocky Mountain Elk gifted to New Zealand by President Roosevelt in 1905. This herd survives protected today in New Zealand’s Fiordland National Park. Selected animals from this free-range herd became the foundation for New Zealand’s farm-raised Elk.
A dedicated group of passionate farmers have been breeding these superior animals to produce the world’s finest and most highly sought after venison. Elk is much larger than other deer so it produces large prime cuts at a much younger age. It can be described as the ‘sweetest’ of the deer meats with a full, deep taste that is somewhat akin to a deeply woody, yet berry-like red wine.
